Finger Lakes Railway Hosts Amtrak Fire Safety Training

Amtrak TrainingAmtrak TrainingOn November 7, 2009, Finger Lakes Railway hosted Amtrak passenger equipment for a one day training event in the Village of Cayuga. County Office of Emergency Services facilitated a Passenger & Freight Railroad Equipment Emergency Response Training Program. It was offered through the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and was done in partnership with Amtrak, CSX, Operation Lifesaver, and Finger Lakes Railways.

Both passenger equipment and freight equipment were used in the training exercises. Instructors from Amtrak, CSX, and Operation Lifesaver provided instructional and hands on experience to over 25 fire fighters from local departments who showed up for the free training. Brian Dahl, Director of Emergency Services for Cayuga County, along with local responders, identified and recognized a substantial increase in train traffic throughout the County. “This program affords the opportunity for first-responders to be better prepared should a local incident involving a railway occur,” says Dahl.
